Black Mountain, founded in 1893, is a very cute town of around 8,000 located just 17 miles east of downtown Asheville. Home to B&B’s, eclectic shops, good restaurants and a thriving arts scene, Black Mountain has grown in popularity among those moving to the region. Areas of interest include nearby Montreat Conference Center, Montreat College, Warren Wilson College, and Camp Rockmont (former home of the Eden Lake Campus of historic Black Mountain College). Smaller Swannanoa is situated between Black Mountain and Asheville. Warren Wilson College is located just to the west of Swannanoa.
