Fairview (Buncombe County) is a popular suburb located just east of town. The area allows residents to enjoy rural settings yet is only minutes to downtown Asheville. There is limited shopping but the area does offer quick access to the Blue Ridge Parkway, I-40 and 240. The tiny hamlet of Gerton (Henderson County) is located slightly further east on the Scenic Byway along Highway 74. Areas of interest include Hickory Nut Gap Farms and beautiful neighborhoods along Cane Creek Road. Rhythm and Blues singer Gladys Knight is a notable Fairview Resident.
