Saluda (population under 1000) is located 35 miles southeast of downtown Asheville. There is a very cute downtown strip with historic homes located within walking distance. Residents enjoy easy access to excellent shopping in nearby Flat Rock and Hendersonville. The town has several notable summer festivals and draws cycling enthusiasts. Tryon has a population of approximately 2000 and is located 45 miles southeast of Asheville, but is only 30 miles north of Greenville, SC. Indian activity in the area dates back to 11,000 years and the Spanish explorer, de Soto, visited what is now Tryon in 1540 in search of gold. Tryon has long drawn affluent guests and artists, and stands to benefit greatly from the newly built Tryon International Equestrian Center, site of the 2018 World Equestrian Games.
