The historic town of Hot Springs (population less than 1000) is home to natural hot springs that have drawn visitors to the area for 200 years.  The town was home to very popular inns and was a major tourist destination for much of the 19th century.  Hot Springs was the site of a large German internment camp during World War I.  Visitors today enjoy restaurants in it’s cute little downtown, as well as easy access to the Appalachian Trail (runs through the middle of town) and excellent white water rafting in the area.  There are several popular festivals held in Hot Springs during peak season.  Nearby Paint Rock is home to Indian petroglyphs dating back 5000 years.  The adorable town of Marshall (population less than 1000) is located approximately 15 miles southeast of Hot Springs, and serves as the county seat of Madison County.
